VINA | A Vina man is in custody following a shooting in Halltown on Tuesday that has left a woman fighting for her life with critical injuries.
Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver said deputies arrested Shannon Dale Hacker on Wednesday after Hacker fled from the area following the shooting. According to Oliver, Hacker allegedly shot the woman, with whom he was in a relationship at the time of the shooting, on Garrison Hollow Road in the Halltown community outside Red Bay. The victim was taken by private vehicle to the Red Bay Hospital, and was then transported to Huntsville Hospital with critical injuries. Oliver said the victim was shot in the arm with a .22 caliber weapon.
Oliver said Hacker was the one who took the victim to the hospital. After dropping the victim off, Hacker left the area and a manhunt began. He was arrested Wednesday afternoon following a brief foot chase in Vina. He is being held in the Franklin County Detention Center.
Hacker is charged with Attempted Murder, Assault 1st Degree, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine), Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Attempting to Elude. Oliver said more charges will be added later.
Oliver said law enforcement officials in three states joined the search and helped in locating Hacker.
