A large tornado touched down in Tishomingo Tuesday afternoon, damaging buildings, downing trees and power lines. However, it appears any injuries received from the storm were only minor.

The town’s Dollar General store appears to have taken the worst hit, but Tishomingo Police Chief Mike Kemp told WTVA the only injuries reported so far have been minor.

The tornado did extensive damage in town. Awnings and roofs were blown off buildings and trees uprooted. The awning at the front of the Penny Pincher was downed. Electricity was out in parts of town as well.

Video submitted to WTVA News in Tupelo showed a massive tornado as it roared through the area. The storm stayed on the ground into Colbert County. The area of Colbert County, south of Cherokee and west of Hwy. 247, is fortunately very sparsely populated.
