Two people are dead and one person was injured following a two-vehicle collision in Belmont Thursday.
Both occupants of an older model Ford pickup were killed. Authorities said Rhonda Burleson, 53, was killed instantly while the pickup’s driver, Roy Hutcheson, 77, of Fulton, was airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, where he died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The driver of the Chevrolet Suburban SUV received non-life-threatening injuries in the accident but was treated at a local hospital.
The crash occurred shortly after 5 p.m. in front of the Texaco on Hwy. 25 in Belmont. Witnesses told The Red Bay News Hutcheson was leaving the Texaco when he pulled out directly in the path of the northbound SUV. The collision was so violent both vehicles landed on their sides. The roadway was closed for more than two hours as first responders worked to free the wreck victims and clear the scene.
The wreck remains under investigation by the Belmont Police Department.
