Early morning crash leaves Red Bay man dead


An early morning collision between a pickup and an 18-wheeler has left a Red Bay man dead.

According to the Quad Cities Trooper Post, at 5:15 a.m. Trooper Lamarcus Baker responded to a two-vehicle crash on Ala. Highway 24 and County Road 23 in Franklin County in the Burnout community. The crash involved a 2011 Suzuki Equator pickup truck driven by Jacob Destin Cox, 22, of Red Bay and a 2001 Peterbilt tractor trailer driven by John Wayne Hill of Pontotoc, Miss. Cox was killed in the crash and Hill was transported to Red Bay Hospital with minor injuries.

Cox was crossing southbound on Hwy. 24 when he was struck on the passenger side. The eastbound lanes of Hwy. 24 were closed for a short time and reopened.

The crash remains under investigation by the Quad Cities Trooper Post.
