HODGES, AL – James Oneal “Neal” Childers, 90, died Sunday, April 30, 2017 at ECM Hospital, Florence, Al. He was born in Franklin County, Al. and had worked as a material handler at NTN. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a MP. He was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church and served as deacon for fifty-five years.
Services will be Tuesday, May 2, 1 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Al. with Bro. Clint Holcombe and Bro. Kevin Palmer officiating. Burial will be in Holly Springs Cemetery, Hodges, Al. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are five children – H.C. Childers (Shirley) Fulton, Ms., James Acey Childers (Sandy) Hamilton, Al., Gary Childers (Renee) Tuscumbia, Al. and Glenn Childers (Sonya Brooks) and Tammy Scott (Tim) all of Hodges, Al.; nine grandchildren – Chayne Childers (Misty), Tracey Childers, Brad Childers (Rhonda Loveless), Chris Childers (Jessica), Adrian Childers, Crystal Kulungian (Tim), Nick Childers (Savannah), Laura Hopson (Kyle) and Colton Scott; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister – Mabel Warner of Florida; one brother – Gwen Childers, Old Hickory, Tn. and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Hardin Childers, a great-granddaughter, Lilly Belle Kulungian, seven brothers and sisters and daughter-in-law, Sarah Childers.
Pallbearers will be Chayne Childers, Colton Scott, Tim Scott, Brad Childers, Chris Childers and Nichalos Childers. Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Hopson, Mark Swindle and Dennis Sell.Visitation will be Monday, May 1, 6-9 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al.
