The City of Red Bay is kicking off Alabama 200 with a public Archeology Day on Saturday, March 18, at Cypress Cove Farm.
Archaeology Day at the Cove will introduce and educate the public on the first people of Alabama through archaeological field work performed by high school children throughout Northwest Alabama. The archaeological site is located just east of city limits off Mud Creek Road and County Road 28. Archaeology Day activities will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The public will have the opportunity to dig and screen for artifacts at a genuine archaeological dig site. Zen Geospatial Solutions is providing geographic information system (GIS) support for the project, and the group will be on hand with their drone, mapping and taking pictures as well.
The public is invited to attend, and ample parking is available.
