BELMONT, MS – Nannie Naomi Deaton, 90, died Sunday, August 21, 2016 at NMMC in Tupelo. She was born in Tippah County, MS to Ellis Edwin and Rachel Vera Tapp Skinner. Naomi lived on a farm near Walnut, MS as a child. She attended Providence Grade School. She graduated in 1944 from Alcorn Agricultural High School in Kossuth where she was honored as the outstanding athlete. Upon graduation, she attended business school in Memphis. She was a member of Liberty Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, August 23, 11 a.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, MS with Bro. Greg Allen and Jimmy Moody officiating. Burial will be in Belmont City Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her sons-Ron Deaton (Pat) of Belmont and Don Deaton (Janet) of Huntsville; grandchildren-Kevin Deaton (Jennifer) of Dennis, Kerry Deaton of Belmont, Christy Deaton Shaw (George) of Tuscumbia, AL; great grandchildren-Hanna Deaton, Dylan Deaton and Haden Deaton; her sister-Betty Jo Melton and her brother-James Daniel Skinner.
She was preceded in death by her husband-William Braxton Deaton; two sons-Jeffrey Ellis Deaton and Gregory Alan Deaton; a grandson-Jason Alan Deaton; sisters-Rachel Lorraine Smith Carter, Addie Mae Russell, Thara Inez Ayers Donitelli, Mettie Albertie Hines and Joyce Bernice Cutberth Groger; her brother-Tramel Mancel Skinner.
Pallbearers will be Kerry Deaton, Kevin Deaton, Dylan Deaton, Scotty Hughes, Tony Deaton and Travis Skinner. Honorary pallbearer will be Haden Deaton.
Visitation will be Monday, August 22, 6-9 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Liberty Church of Christ.
