At a special called meeting of the Aldermen of the Town of Belmont Tuesday night, E.C. (Zeke) Clark was appointed mayor to serve until an election can be called to elect a new head for the town government.
Action Tuesday night came after Ralph Bowe, the duly elected mayor, resigned the post to accept another position.
Mr. Clark is a retired highway patrolman, having spent 25 years in the employment of the state safety department.
According to law, an election must be held within six months to name a mayor to fill out the unexpired term of Mr. Bowen.
